Salzburg, the world-famous festival city at the foot of the Mönchsberg, attracts every year around 6.7 million visitors from Austria and abroad. But Salzburg does not only have Getreidegasse, Mozart’s birthplace and Mirabell Castle to offer. In Salzburg you will also find one of the most famous and beautiful casinos in Austria.
According to the philosophy of Casinos Austria, which provides a combination of art and games, Schloss Klessheim offers itself as an optimal casino location. Not far from the Hotel zur Post and the Villa Ceconi you will find the Schloss Klessheim, one of those Baroque palaces that surround the city of Salzburg like a wreath. The castle has often been the scene of brilliant events and political meetings in recent decades.
On July 1, 1934, the Casino Salzburg opened as the second year-round operation first in the Mirabell Palace the game operation. During the Second World War, the casino was closed, reopened in July 1950. The later necessary extension of the premises required a change of location. In 1977, therefore the Café Restaurant Winkler on the Mönchsberg with a view of the festival city became the new quarter.
Rising visitor numbers and the continuous expansion of the game offer led to an expansion of the casino in 1993. The “alternative accommodation” in the castle Klessheim found such a consent with the guests that Casinos Austria decided to leave the casino there until further notice.
The magnificent Baroque palace Klessheim on the outskirts of Salzburg was designed according to the plans of the famous builder Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Its name and its European breadth in the construction concept determine the artistic value of the castle. Fischer von Erlach used motifs from Versailles Palace as well as Northern Italian Palladian elements. Due to its generosity, Schloss Kleßheim allows a diverse and far-reaching interior design. A large part of the premises was made available to the casino. The juxtaposition of Baroque art and modern game makes the special flair of this casino.
