Organic farming is the most environmentally compatible form of agriculture. But ‘organic’ means more than farming without synthetic chemicals. A holistic philosophy and a farming cycle as complete as possible, with a diverse structure, are the principles and prerequisites for successful organic farming. The natural resources of soil and water are used in an environmentally compatible manner and are preserved for future generations.
The philosophy of organic farming is high food quality through a careful use of land, raw materials and energy. Animals are treat humanely and with can move freely.
The organic food comes mainly from the farm. Cereals, fruits and vegetables are produced without synthetic chemical pesticides.
Annually pass through human hands greenhouse gases like CO2, methane, nitrous oxide into the atmosphere. In sum, you have the effect of 50 billion tons of CO2. Globally, about one-third of all greenhouse gases comes from land use. In particular, the artificial fertilizers and pesticides are important contributors to the global warming issue. The production of 1 kg of nitrogen fertilizer sets 6 kg of CO2 free. Another 19 kg CO2 are due to one kg of pesticide. The import for animal feed cause significant CO2 emissions. In the EU countries annually over 700,000 tonnes of soya are imported.
If the EU would fully convert to organic farming, farmers in poorer countries could produce more food for their own supply.
Products, which gurantee organic farming or fair trade conditions, make an important contribution to climate protection.
The use of genetic engineering is prohibited in the organic agriculture.
For organic farmers it is very important that customers trust in their way of farming. Therefore they are monitored by an independent state-authorized institute at least once a year. Since 2009 even organic restaurants are checked by this institute.
„Bio“ means environmental protection, quality, pleasure, animal friendly farming without using GMOs. Organic foods contain more natural ingredients and taste much better.
Always pay attention to the organic labeling!
Since 1 January 2009, the following terms are no longer madatory but recommended.

For better recognition many products are clearly marked with a special identification.
How to handle non- packaged organic foods?
If you want to buy organic food for example at a the farmer market, you can ask for the “bio”-control number or the certificate from the organic inspection institute.
Attention: organic trick!
Beware of terms such as "out of semi-natural cultivation" or "for environmentally friendly agriculture" or "organically grown" - they have nothing to do with organic farming.
